How We Help

Paths Out of Violence: The Steps You Can Take

Even when the situation feels hopeless, there are protective measures that can help. From legal actions to safe accommodations – you have options. We guide you through the possibilities and support you along the way. Every situation is unique, and there are no wrong decisions. What matters most is that you receive the support you need when you’re ready.

Immediate Protection: Police-Issued Restraining Orders

No one has to live with violence. In Switzerland, the police can remove the person using violence from the shared home – for up to 14 days in the canton of Thurgau, including a no-return and no-contact order. This measure is for your protection and can be extended. If you are unsure or need support, we can guide you through this process and explain your rights.

Emergency Protection: Finding Safe Accommodation

If staying at home is not an option, we help you find a safe place to stay. We are well-connected and can arrange entry into a women’s shelter or other temporary accommodation. Confidentiality is ensured – the person using violence will not know your location. You are not alone. We are here to support you.

A criminal complaint informs the police and public prosecutor’s office about an offense. It can be filed orally or in writing, including by third parties. We provide guidance on your options, answer any questions, and can accompany you to the police or court if needed. Important: You do not need to file a complaint to receive support from us. Your safety and well-being come first. We are here for you, no matter which path you choose.

Referrals to Specialized Support Services

Not all support can be provided by us alone. That’s why we collaborate with other expert organizations and can refer you to the right professionals, including doctors, therapists, legal advisors, or other specialized services. If further assistance is needed, we help you find the right place to turn to. You don’t have to navigate this alone – we are here to support you every step of the way.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Only if the police clearly determine that you are the one using violence could a restraining order be issued against you. If you have concerns or questions, we are here to advise you.

If the person violates the restraining order, the police can intervene. Breaking a no-return or no-contact order is a criminal offense and can lead to legal action or further protective measures. Report any violations immediately – your safety is the priority, and legal steps can be taken to protect you.

No, seeking help does not automatically affect your residency status. There are legal protections for women affected by violence, even without a Swiss passport. Get advice – there are ways to receive support without jeopardizing your residence permit.

If a joint account is frozen, you may lose access to your money. Depending on the situation, there are legal ways to secure your financial stability. Seek support early – from a specialized service or legal advisor—to understand your options.

Yes, you can seek support at any time, even if you are still living with the person using violence. You do not have to make an immediate decision. We offer confidential counseling, explain your options, and help you find a safe way forward.
